Night Of Lights: Hosted By Katoomba Lighthouse Church

This December, Blue Mountain locals are warmly invited to the North Katoomba’s annual community Christmas event ‘Night of Lights’.

There are certain joyful events that stand clear in our childhood memories, and it’s the aim of the organisers of North Katoomba’s Night of Lights to create one of those events.

To be held at the Lighthouse on the corner of Victoria and South streets on the evening of Saturday, 18 December, the event will sparkle with Christmas lights festooning the outdoor deck and innovative children’s playground.Running from 7.30-10pm, there will be a café, live music, craft, photo lounge and a butterfly hunt.

Everyone is welcome, but particularly families with children. For the adults, pub rock band ‘The Generators’ will kick off the music program at 7.30pm out on the deck with 40 minutes of crowd pleasing favourites, followed by carols with electric candles from 8.15-8.45, then fabulous traditional jigs and reels the whole family can dance to from folk band Jersey Road.Kids can play hunt the bioluminescent butterflies, with a lollybag prize when they find them all, and make their own Christmas bauble for their tree at the craft table.

There’ll also be a ‘photo lounge’ with a big teddy and other props for guests to take fun pictures of themselves and families. The theme of the night is HOPE, inspired by poet Emily Dickinson’s ‘Hope Is a Thing With Feathers’.
Children and adults alike are encouraged to get creative, dressing up as your most favourite colourful birds.

It’s expected that families will have had dinner before coming, but there will be a café with espresso machine, ice cream sundaes, ice cream spiders, popcorn, tea and cakes for sale. Everything else on the night is free as a celebration of Christmas. Hope to see you there!

Carols In Your Backyard: Online Carols Event Hosted By Gymea Anglican Church & Carols In The Park

Carols in Your Backyard is a little slice of normal this Christmas. Gathering with friends and family on a picnic rug for Carols is such an ingrained part of Aussie culture that we thought it was worth the effort to create a COVID-Safe Carols experience as our Christmas gift in 2021.

Produced for video by Gymea Baptist Church, a community of faith with over twenty years of experience creating family-friendly Carols events and with the amazing Prinnie Stevens and Colin Buchanan, this free, live-streamed event on Sunday 19th December at 7pm is the perfect opportunity to invite friends, family, and neighbours to your backyard (or driveway or living room or deck – you get the idea!) to enjoy a fantastic program of the familiar songs and stories of Christmas and the hope they offer at the end of a year that certainly needs some!

We’d love for you to join us – or allow us to join you – in your backyard! See you on the 19th!

When: 7:00pm, Sunday 19 December 2021
