Dantes Glen Walking Track Lawson is such a wonderful family friendly walking track and location for bush play in the mid Blue Mountains. It is a moderate 2.1km return ‘there and back’ track with an elevation of 78 metres. Pack a picnic and enjoy this beautiful rainforest oasis with your children and dog, all with a stunning waterfall backdrop.

What To Expect At Dantes Glen Walking Track Lawson

The short walk down into Dantes Glen is a destination in itself with the large waterfall, cave to traverse and creek to explore. You can easily spend an hour playing, exploring and picnicing down there with your family. On a hot day this is an ideal spot to enjoy getting wet under a waterfall!

Stairs

The descent into Dantes Glen is likely to be considered moderate due to the number and steepness of stairs on the trail. We walked with children aged form 2 to 10 and all managed well. Our toddler needed some assistance with the larger steps but persevered on the return journey well.

Can you find the huge termite mound?

Water

At Dantes Glen, there is one large waterfall and waterhole below that leads down to a creek. The water level will depend on the amount of recent rain but as always, follow bushwalking safety guidelines and do not let your children explore without supervision. Keep your children in arms distance and keep safe near water.

Mossy Creek

Toddlers will enjoy splashing and playing in the creek. If you are lucky, you may spot a few yabbies taking refuge under the mossy rocks in the creek nearby. Children will also enjoy the challenge of hopping and climbing from rock to rock.

Children enjoyed watching yabbies play in the water in the creek near Dantes Glen Walking Track Lawson.

Dantes Glen Footbridge

The bridge at Dantes Glen is rickedy, rustic and doesn’t have any hand rails. It is fairly wide though and there is only around one and a half metres to the creek below. Just be sure to follow the safety instructions on the sign.

Different Vegetation

As you descend the stairs down to Dantes Glen, you will notice that the vegetation changes from bushland to a ferny rainforest-like santuary. It is really pretty and you feel like you have found a hidden underground wonderland.

More Waterfalls Nearby

If you would like to extend your walk, both St. Michael’s Falls and Fairy Falls are just a short walk away. The track off to Fairy Falls is on your right near the start of the walk, as you head down the stairs.

A Longer Bushwalk

So visit one, two or three waterfalls, all within a short distance from one another. If you are extra energetic, Dantes Glen Walking Track is part of a larger 5.6km circuit called the Empire Pass Circuit Track where you will also see Frederica Falls.

Are Dogs Allowed On This Track?

There is a large cave to explore at Dantes Glen Lawson.

Yes, dogs are welcome. However, if you bring your dog, please ensure that it is on a leash. No matter how friendly your dog is, when it races up to young children, it can be quite terrifying for them. Please ensure that you clean up after your dog too.

How To Find Dantes Glen Walking Track

There are actually a few entrances to Dantes Glen Walking Track Lawson. The quickest access point to get to Fairy Falls, Dantes Glen and St. Michael’s Falls is from North Lawson Park, at the end of St Bernard’s Drive, Lawson, (this is the same road that Lawson Swim Centre is on).

You will drive from a sealed road to an unsealed road. There is a semi-circle parking area and the track entrance is on the right hand side. The track to the left is a fire trail but be sure to take the track to the right.

Start your walk here, near the blue sign on the right.

Dantes Glen Walking Track Lawson is one of our favourite spots for bush play. You can make your adventure as long or short as you wish and spend plenty of time with your family at this special Blue Mountains haven.
