Lennox Bridge Glenbrook is the oldest stone bridge on the Australian mainland! That is reason alone to visit this beautiful stone bridge, but further to its historical value, Lennox Bridge is a lovely spot to bring children to simply explore, hop on rocks, enjoy a picnic and play in nature.

It is connected to plenty of bushwalks and bike trails too, so there is something for everyone when you visit Lennox Bridge.

What To Expect At Lennox Bridge Glenbrook

Lennox Bridge was completed in 1833 by skilled convicts and was the first stone bridge built in Australia. It formed part of the main westbound route for nearly a century! Today, it still gets the occasional car driving over it but tends to attract more visitors on foot or bike.

Lennox Bridge is a picturesque sight with its attractive arch design, stairs spiralling down into the fern filled gully and water channel below and the creek trickling underneath, leading into randomly scattered moss-covered boulders and rocks. It is an inviting scene, especially for children who love to climb, splash and explore!

Stairs

When you reach the information sign about Lennox Bridge, you will find the beautiful, winding stairs leading you down to the bottom of the bridge. The temperature drops a little as you head down so dress warmly in the cooler months.

It is a pleasant and easy walk down but there are no hand rails.

Picnic Table

There is one picnic table near the top of the stairs, so you may like to bring a some food to enjoy while you are there.

Dogs Off Leash Track

If you wanted to walk to Marge’s Lookout from here, it is about 1.8km or 45 minutes each way. It is an easy to medium walk with unsealed and uneven ground.  Most prams might struggle over the really rocky areas.

You will find more Blue Mountains dog friendly tracks here.

Rocks, Water & Ferns

A great reason to bring children to visit Lennox Bridge is because it is a cool spot to explore and play. There are rocks to clamber over, water to touch, rocks to skim and sticks to collect.

It is really pretty under Lennox Bridge! You will find lots of ferns, some fallen branches and so many rocks of variouos shapes and sizes, many covered in bright green moss.

Unfortunately, we did find some litter scattered around under the bridge in between rocks. Please remember to take all of your rubbish with you, to keep this area as beautiful as possible for everyone to enjoy.

Water Safety

It is really important to keep children safe around water, even if it is just shallow water. Always stay in arms reach of your child near water and know where they are at all times.

After rain, the area around Lennox Bridge collects more water and rock pools will be deeper. Please use good judgement when using this area and do not allow children to play if there has been a lot of recent rain and if water levels are high. Read more about water safety here.

If you begin the Knapsack Reserve bushwalk, you will find even more rockpools to explore on the right about 50 metres from the start of the track.

Again, check out how deep the pools of water are, watch children closely and hold the hands of toddlers. Water levels will vary depending on how much rain there has been so always remain vigilent around water.

Marge’s and Elizabeth Lookouts

This is the beginning of the track to Marge’s and Elizabeth Lookouts.

There is plenty to explore around Lennox Bridge, even without walking the tracks. If you are up for a walk though, head to Marge’s Lookout. It should take you around 30 minutes return from Lennox Bridge. There is a nice view over Penrith and the walk is mostly flat and not too difficult.

The Carpark

There is a carpark next to the bridge that probably only fits approximately 8 or 9 cars angle parked. There is a sign, so it’s easy to find.

This carpark fits around 8 or 9 cars.

Quiet

It is very quiet around Lennox Bridge Glenbrook. You cannot hear traffic. Usually, you might hear the sound of trickling water underneath the bridge, a variety of birds that live in the area and children playing happily on the rocks.

Find The Engraving

Here’s a challenge for your trip to Lennox Bridge. Can you spot David Lennox’s name engraved in one of the stones in the arch of the bridge?

How To Get There

The easiest way to find Lennox Bridge is to type ‘Lennox Bridge’ into Google. If you put in its street address you will arrive at the wrong spot and likely get confused.

Lennox Bridge is about halfway along Mitchell’s Pass in Glenbrook. Follow Google’s directions and watch for the signs and you should find it easily.

The stairs down to the bottom of Lennox Bridge are like a scene from a fairy tale!

The Knapsack Reserve path is smooth is some parts and rough terrain in other sections, which makes it difficult for most prams to navigate.
