The Fairfax Heritage Track Blackheath is the most pram friendly and wheelchair accessible track in the Blue Mountains. The path is tarred, smooth and fairly flat. If you want a combination of spectacular views, a family-friendly walk and diverse vegetation to explore, then this is the walk for you.

Finding Fairfax Heritage Track Blackheath

The Fairfax Heritage Track Blackheath is easy to find. Drive towards Govett’s Leap Lookout. You will pass through a tunnel of trees as your near the entrance of the National Park.

If you are facing the spectacular view, there is a track off to the right with some stairs – that is NOT the Fairfax Heritage Track. Head towards the left where the toilet facilities are.

The entrance to the Fairfax Heritage Track Blackheath is to the left of the facilities. There is no soap so bring your own hand santitiser.

Start here. As you can see, the track is tarred and smooth. It is the best track for wheelchairs or any kind of pram (not just the cross-country ones).

The Fairfax Heritage Track winds 1.8km (one way) from the Blue Mountains Heritage Centre around to Govetts Leap Lookout. You can start the walk at either location and return the way you came, making the walk a 3.6km return walk. If you begin the Fairfax Heritage Track from Govett’s Leap Lookout, where the main carpark is, it is a 500m walk back to the carpark on an unsealed path. An all-terrain pram will cope with this short track but it is quite bumpy. Many people just return the way they came or send someone to get the car. The end of the unsealed path…

This is a wonderful walk for families. There is so much unusual vegetation to explore, the views of the Grose Valley, Govetts Gorge and Jungle Falls are breathtaking, the path is easy and you can enjoy time with your family and friends as you enjoy the wonders of this amazing part of the world.

Bushwalking Safety

Even though this walk is easy, always be prepared when bushwalking, especially with children. Keep hold of your children at the lookouts, as the fences are not very high. Before you grab your little ones, backpacks, drink bottles and walking shoes, ensure that you check all of the relevant safety requirements for the particular track that you are walking.

Bushwalks for kids in the Blue Mountains are all different and require a different level of preparation. Please read our tips for keeping children safe on bushwalks. It’s a good idea to also download the NSW National Parks app and check out the Think before you TREK advice on the NSW National Parks and Wildlife Service.
