It is a sensational 1.3km track that illuminates natural features including, Orphan Rock, Witches Leap, Katoomba Falls and Katoomba Cascades. At certain vantage points, you may also see the Three Sisters lit up. If you are looking for a unique date night, a fun nighttime family adventure or just to simply breathe in the fresh upper Blue Mountains air, head to Katoomba for this amazing new bushwalk.

The creation of the Katoomba Falls Reserve Night Lit Walk is a stunning example of creativity and brilliance by the Blue Mountains City Council. In time, it will attract visitors from all around the world and make headlines around the globe. It would be best to appreciate this wonderful new Blue Mountains Bushwalk before the borders open once again.

After six years in the making, and with bushfires and floods halting its progress, we are pleased to finally present to you the finer details for the Katoomba Falls Reserve Night Lit Walk, so that you may now experience this extraordinary new attraction of the Blue Mountains National Park:

When Are The Lights Turned On And Off?

All the lights turn on at dusk and floodlights are turned off at 10.30pm and path lights at 11pm.

Plenty of planning and development work has also gone into creating sympathetic lighting at the site to highlight the area’s spectacular natural features without causing unnecessary light pollution for wildlife or local residents.

Where Do We Start The Katoomba Falls Reserve Night Lit Walk?

You can begin the walk from either the main Katoomba Cascades carpark or near the old Katoomba Kiosk. Please refer to the map.

Is This Walk Family Friendly?

Yes, this walk is considered safe to complete with children. However, some very young children may struggle with the stairs but older children should be fine. As always, on any bushwalk, keep children close to you and never let them run ahead. Please read our bushwalking safety information carefully.

Is This Bushwalk Accessible Or Suitable With A Pram?

The main night lit walk is not accessible. There are a lot of steps on the Katoomba Falls Reserve Night Lit Walk.

However, from the Katoomba Cascades carpark, you may still view some spectacular sights with prams or wheelchairs, as you head towards the Cliff View Lookout, as it is a paved pathway. Please look for the ‘accessible path’ symbol of the map to find the best pathways for prams and wheelchairs.

Are Dogs Welcome On The Katoomba Falls Reserve Night Lit Walk?

Yes, but dogs must be on a leash at all times.

There are also other walks you can take dogs on throughout the Blue Mountains, including the popular Five Waterfalls Bushwalk in South Lawson. There are also 14 leash-free areas that you can use to exercise your dog throughout the Blue Mountains.

How Long Does The Katoomba Falls Reserve Night Lit Walk Take?

The time you take to complete the Katoomba Falls Reserve Night Lit Walk depends on your pace and how long you stop at each point of interest. However, it may take you approximately 45 minutes – 1 hour to complete.

Other General Tips

Take care on this walk as some surfaces might be slippery and uneven. You may report any faults or hazards to the Blue Mountains City Council on (02) 4780 5000.

You must also ensure that you bring an extra light source with you such as a head torch, mobile phone torch or regular flashlight.

  • Thirteen floodlights highlight the main focal points at the site with another 390 individual lights illuminating the footpaths.
  • Floodlights were originally installed at the site in 1932.
  • All lights are energy efficient LEDs.
  • The Katoomba Falls Reserve Night Lit Walk connects other previously lit areas, and has new lighting from the top of the Katoomba Falls Kiosk car park, around Reid’s Plateau and down to the Duke and Duchess lookout.
  •  As part of the Blue Mountains City Council’s commitment to becoming a carbon neutral organisation by 2025 they are actively working towards a renewable electricity Power Purchase Agreement that will deliver 100% renewable energy for all of Council’s electricity use.
