If you are having a staycation in the Blue Mountains and looking for a wonderful day trip idea on a hot Summer’s day, Putney Park in the City of Ryde is a wonderful splash park in Sydney’s Inner West and is definitely worth the drive.

Putney Park view

Your kids will love cooling off in the two FREE splash pools at Putney Park, on Pellisier Road. The park is set along the Parramatta River, has lovely views, plenty of shade, a nice breeze, two playgrounds and is a great spot for a family picnic.

Distance To Putney Park

It will take you about an hour and a half to drive to Putney Park from Katoomba, just over an hour from Lawson and about 45 minutes from Glenbrook (with tolls), but it is worth the trip on a warm day.

Recommended Ages For Putney Park

Putney Park toddler splash park

Children up to the age of about 10 – 12 would enjoy the splash park. The pools are designed for younger children but the massive slide is better suited to the older ones. The wetter the kids are, the faster the slide!

Keep in mind that children come flying out the end of the slide so please keep your little ones clear of the slide’s exit.

Tips For Your Visit To This Fabulous Sydney Splash Park

Putney Park water play

  • Bring plenty of food and water with you because there is nowhere to purchase food nearby. Please also remember to take your rubbish with you.
  • The toddler pools are no deeper than about 25 – 30cm, but because there are some spots that are unfenced and the river is nearby you might consider putting floaties, a vest or bubble on your toddler if the park is busy, you have multiple children to watch, or he or she is prone to exploration. There are no lifeguards at Putney Park.
  • Please read our Water Play safety information for more details on how to keep your children safe around water.

Putney Park pebble creek

  • There is a toilet block about 20m from the splash park.

  • Make a day of it and catch the FREE Mortlake Ferry at the end of Pellisier Road and visit Putney Park’s southern playground (that has another fast slide!).
