About Sensory Garden Playgroup

Calling all parents and little adventurers! Get ready to embark on an extraordinary journey – imagine a safe haven where kids can unleash their curiosity and ignite their senses, all while you’re right there by their side.

Welcome to Sensory Garden!

Sensory Garden is an outdoor parent-supervised playgroup for kids aged 6 months – 5 years that runs in Lawson in the beautiful Blue Mountains. We love messy hands and feet and are all about child-led play!

Our main goal is to provide sensory nourishment for their brains and time in the sun for their bodies! We strive to tire your bub out. Who doesn’t like a bit of a quiet time during naps or sleeping through the night after an
exciting day?!

What can you expect at Sensory Garden Playgroup?

Our sessions take place in Lawson in an outdoor playground that is fenced off from all sides. If your child likes to run, you do not need to worry! All gates are locked and secure. There is always plenty of parking and pram access is also available.

For each session, we set up sensory favourites like messy trays (appropriate for babies as young as 6 months!), mud kitchen and a musical corner. We also have a large sandpit filled with trucks and buckets, a cubby house and slides and swings.

There is always a lot to do at Sensory Garden, boredom is not a thing when you walk in through our gates!

When Are The Sessions?

In Term 3, 2023 we are offering two weekly sessions:

● Tuesdays 10AM – 11AM
● Fridays 10AM – 11AM

Please note that each weekly session has a limited number of spots, booking is required.

How Much Does It Cost And
How Do I Book?

We are offering casual attendance at our sessions and session packages. Session packages carry a very generous discount.

For bookings and up-to-date pricing, please visit our website here.

What do I need to bring?

We strive to provide a very sensory environment for your bub! They might be playing with water, slime, sticky pasta and rice. We also use food colouring in our trays that can stain your child’s clothing.

Keep that in mind when you are dressing them for the Sensory Garden session and bring a change of clothing, so you don’t have to dig sticky pasta and rice out of their car seat! We will provide a change mat on the premises.

If seeing messy clothing makes your heart skip a beat, we highly recommend art smocks or overalls for your little one! Whatever makes you and them comfortable.

A suggested list of what to bring:
● Wet wipes
● Change of clothing
● Fresh nappy
● Small towel
● Wet bag/plastic bag for dirty clothing
● Art smocks/overalls (if using)

Let me tell you a story of how it all started…
On the 26th June 2021 my husband and I were having brunch at a local cafe. I was 40+ weeks pregnant and very ready to get the baby out of me. My husband picked up his phone and said “Oh look, a lockdown has been announced from 5pm today”. Covid cases were growing, so we knew it was coming. Little did we know however, that I would go into labor at 6pm that night.
Being a first time mother is hard, but raising a baby during a 5 month lockdown really kicked my butt.🫣 Sleep deprivation delirium, struggle to breastfeed was exacerbated by complete isolation. It was tough. When lockdowns finally ended and the baby turned 6 months, I signed her up for a messy/sensory play in our area. I didn’t know what it was about, I have never heard of it before, but frankly I didn’t care. I needed to be out of the house. Messy play days, coupled with infant swimming, were the most wonderful times back then. I felt like a human, I felt seen and heard. I felt like I could enjoy my baby and interact with other mums.
And this is my vision for the Sensory Garden. It is a place where we are our own village – mothers from all walks of life. We gather together to talk, share our experiences, spend quality time with our babies and just enjoy the sun. We have inspiring, resilient and kind women in our midst. Trust me, I’ve met them! 💚 We laugh together, share our stories, chase our toddlers and hug our babies.
Come and join us on this wonderful journey. I will see you in the Sensory Garden!

I look forward to welcoming
you into our space!

Please be in touch if you have any questions. You can find out more about all of the Sensory Garden on our website.

Our 10mo daughter Frankie absolutely loves sensory play. She gets to explore colours, textures, movement, shape and interactions between different play items. This has been incredible for her development and motor skills! We love attending as parents, immersing ourselves in the joy of our daughter and the fun sensory play elements. And best of all, once we clean and change Frankie, the mess stays behind! Can absolutely recommend sensory play to anyone with littles. Emma is an absolutely gorgeous person and so professional, kind and warm!

Absolutely love “messy play” as it’s called at our house. My 2.5 year old looks forward to sensory play all week. Emma is fantastic at setting up beautiful and thoughtful play spaces which she often tailors to meet specific childrens interest.

My kids absolutely love the sensory play sessions, so much so that we hired Emma to set one up at their birthday party. It was such a hit with all of our little guests and the parents were all involved and enjoying it too! It’s so much more then just getting messy, highly recommended you give it a go!

I would 100% recommend Mountain Kids Sensory Play for anyone wanting their children to explore in safe mindful messy play without the clean up. My two little ones have so much fun and it’s something we all look forward to on Fridays.
