For an experience that is a little different, outside of the Blue Mountains, pack a picnic and head to Lizard Log Park and Playground in Western Sydney Parklands.

Lizard Log is a spacious park that is ideal for kids of all ages. It will leave you feeling a little more relaxed than visiting your average playground too! This is because Lizard Log Park and Playground is set beautifully within its natural surroundings and is spaced out so that even if there are a lot of children playing, it doesn’t feel too busy.

Lizard Log Park and Playground is hidden away in Western Sydney Parklands, about a 40-minute drive from Springwood (including a toll on the M7). Parking is free and easy too (but be sure to check whether time restrictions apply).

The playground fits so perfectly in its bush setting that it is almost camouflaged with its surroundings! You may not even know there was a playground there, if you didn’t know it was there!

Lizard Log Park and Playground are a little like a fancy bush playgroup. There is plenty of fun equipment for kids to enjoy for hours, but the natural surroundings inspire imaginative and social nature play.

The playground is designed in such a way that leaves space for a children’s imaginations to run wild, as well as their little legs!

Features of Lizard Log Park and Playground

At Lizard Log there is a single flying fox (the dual flying fox is being repaired), diggers for sand play, a water play pump and wooden deck (at the time of writing there were a couple of sharp nails in the deck sticking up so please encourage your children to wear shoes).

You will also find carved wooden animals made out of recycled timber from the area, a large angled spinning circle, rock climbing wall, two large circular net swings, logs and ropes for balancing and create-your-own obstacle course challenges.

You and your family may also enjoy the nearby scenic walks. If you feel like a short stroll, the 1.6km Pimelea Loop path circles around Lizard Log. For a longer walk or cycle, take the Parklands Track, which connects Lizard Log to The Dairy, Calmsley Hill City Farm, Moonrise Lookout, Sugarloaf Ridge and Prospect Reservoir.

After your walk, enjoy a barbeque lunch on one of 24 FREE of charge electric barbecues or 10 coal barbecue stations. They are available on a ‘first come’ basis but there are ten barbecues available to book if you are having a party or special occasion. The icecream van might even make a visit while you’re there!

You may prefer a picnic on the large grassed area and a bike or scooter ride around the looped and winding paths.

Thankfully, there are also two modern, clean and accessible facilities blocks at Lizard Log, close to the picnic shelters.

At the entrance to Lizard Log Park and Playgrounds, there is even a cafe for your essential coffee needs!

Opening Hours

Parklands picnic areas and tracks are open 24 hours, seven days a week, for pedestrians, but most of the Parklands is not lit after hours.

If you are driving, Parklands picnic area gates are open daily from 8am to 6pm (8pm during daylight saving).

Lizard Log Markets

You are also able to order fresh produce direct from Western Sydney Parklands Urban Farms and local producers and pick up your order directly from the Lizard Log site on Market Saturdays between 9am and 2pm.
